| Q: |
What's the difference between SEO and SEM? |
| A: |
SEO is Search Engine Optimization, while SEM is Search Engine Marketing. SEM became popular when Google introduced their Adwords program which allowed companies to advertise alongside their search results. It is still a very easy and popular way to get started in internet advertising, though the effectiveness of the Adwords program has dwindled as the number of companies bidding for keywords has increased. It used to be that you could easily get a 4% click through rate on Adwords, but my experience today is that you are fortunate if you get a 1% click through rate... and that will be at a high price.
Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is still the best way to maximize your advertising dollars and get the best, long-term exposure. But it's a lot of hard work and takes a long time. |
